1986 Chevrolet Corvette

This 1986 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car Edition convertible, the first Corvette convertible since Chevrolet dropped it from production at the end of model-year 1975. The Indianapolis 500 and Chevrolet both celebrated their diamond jubilees in 1986 with the choice of Corvette as the Memorial Day classic’s Official Pace Car. As it happened, the 1986 Corvette convertible was only the second, bone stock except for its special lights and graphics; it was also the first Corvette convertible since 1975. To celebrate that resurrection, Chevrolet announced that all Corvette convertibles would be designated as pace-car replicas regardless of their color, although the official pace car was code-35 Yellow.  
Chevrolet built only 732 Yellow convertibles in 1986, accounting for approximately 10 percent of total convertible production. As a result, these cars have gained genuine collector status, which certainly applies to this example in our showroom.  In addition to being the first Corvette convertible after an 11-year hiatus, it also carries a factory sticker on the radiator shroud identifying it as a Chevrolet Engineering Test and Development Vehicle.
